Snails And Other Strange “Foods”.

Written by: The Bridge on Tuesday, April 22nd, 2008

The food is something to get used to over here. If you thought I had a problem getting up for breakfast at home, here it is even less tempting. In the communal dinning area breakfast can vary from 7:00 am to 8:00 am to not at all. And then breakfast it is (bread and tea) on one day and (beans and water) the nest day. I can't survive on a slice of bread till 1:00 and so Judy Basel sometimes makes something when we get back from breakfast. At 1:00 pm it is "Garri Time" which consists of (beans and water) or or (garri with garri soup and water) an....

Easter Greetings from the white brothers and sisters in Palmgrove!

We are up to 6 now, Eddie and Anna from Cascade arrived a little over two weeks ago. It's nice to have more people like ourselves around. The black company, while entertaining and friendly does sometimes get a bit too much with their always wanting something.

Eddie and Anna are doing little jobs around the house while they try to adjust to the heat. But they assure us they like the heat....

Not All Sunshine.

Hello, blog readers!

Apparently, people at home or elsewhere are getting the impression, from our previous blogs, that we are having a holiday here! Over the phone, I've talked with people from back home and some told me that while reading about our adventures here in Palmgrove, Africa, they got the impression that we were having a good time here, that things were going well, and that we have nothing to complain about! Though this is not the case, I wasn't surprised to hear that. You see, when we sit down to write blogs for the public, we ar....

Making Bricks The Hard Way.

Written by: The Bridge on Friday, April 4th, 2008

When I think of getting some bricks for a garden, I think of getting a pallet from Barkman Concrete. Here in Palmgrove things are a lot different. Bricks are made entirely by hand. In the end, the finished product is of low quality and very inconsistent. But, with a rainy season that lasts eight months the people of Palmgrove rely on bricks to stop erosion. The termite ants are also a major reason for brick usage. Overall, the most notable thing about brick making is the amount of labor it takes.
To make bricks they need c....

Hare-Raising Experiences!
March 8, 2008
It was bunnies on my mind, that bright and early morning when I got up to go to breakfast. The second bell rang and I went to the dining room to sit and wait for the people to come like we have to every morning. No rush in Africa. Children are always there first and they were singing morning songs with Eddy Vetter. I had almost finished my chunk of white bread and peanut butter, washed down with a good cup of sweet tea, by the time most people showed up.
After breakfast Inemesit and I went by motorbike....
